White Shawarma Sauce and Yellow Shawarma Sauce are essential condiments that bring shawarma wraps, grilled meats, and sandwiches to life. These sauces add creaminess, tang, and bold flavor that perfectly complement juicy chicken, beef, or vegetables. With simple ingredients and quick preparation, you can easily recreate both sauces at home and elevate your meals instantly.

I first made these sauces when I wanted to recreate a shawarma-style wrap at home. The wrap tasted good, but it was missing something. Once I mixed yogurt, garlic, and lemon for the white sauce, and a richer, slightly spiced version for the yellow sauce, everything changed. The flavors became balanced, creamy, and restaurant-like. Since then, I always keep at least one of these sauces ready in the fridge.

Why These Shawarma Sauces Taste So Authentic

White shawarma sauce delivers fresh and tangy flavor

White Shawarma Sauce is known for its light, refreshing taste. Greek yogurt forms the base, giving it a creamy texture with a slight tang. When combined with mayonnaise, it becomes smoother and richer without losing freshness.

Garlic plays a key role in creating that signature shawarma flavor. Lemon juice and vinegar add acidity, which balances the creaminess and enhances the overall taste. A small amount of honey softens the sharpness and adds a subtle sweetness.

Cumin adds warmth, while parsley brings freshness and color. Together, these ingredients create a sauce that feels light, bright, and perfectly balanced.

Because of this combination, White Shawarma Sauce works beautifully with grilled meats and fresh vegetables.

Yellow shawarma sauce is richer and slightly spiced

Yellow Shawarma Sauce has a deeper, richer flavor profile. Mayonnaise forms the main base, making it thicker and creamier. Yogurt adds a slight tang, balancing the richness.

Garlic and lemon juice provide freshness, while olive oil adds smoothness. Mustard introduces a mild sharpness that enhances the overall flavor.

Paprika gives the sauce its warm color and a hint of spice, while black pepper adds depth. Salt ties everything together, creating a well-rounded taste.

Because of its richer texture and slightly bold flavor, Yellow Shawarma Sauce pairs especially well with wraps and grilled dishes.

Ingredients Breakdown and Easy Substitutions

What each ingredient contributes

In White Shawarma Sauce, yogurt provides tang and creaminess, while mayonnaise adds smooth texture. Garlic delivers bold flavor, and lemon juice plus vinegar add brightness.

Honey balances acidity, while cumin adds a subtle earthy note. Parsley gives freshness and a pop of color.

In Yellow Shawarma Sauce, mayonnaise creates a creamy base, while yogurt adds lightness. Garlic and lemon juice enhance flavor, while olive oil improves texture.

Mustard adds a slight kick, paprika gives color and warmth, and black pepper deepens the taste.

Each ingredient plays a specific role, resulting in sauces that are both simple and flavorful.

Substitutions to suit your kitchen

Both sauces are easy to adjust. If Greek yogurt is unavailable, plain yogurt works well, though it may be slightly thinner.

For a lighter version, you can reduce the mayonnaise and increase the yogurt. If you prefer a stronger garlic flavor, add an extra clove.

Honey in the white sauce can be replaced with a small amount of sugar. For the yellow sauce, paprika can be adjusted for more or less spice.

You can also add a pinch of turmeric to the yellow sauce for a deeper color if desired.

These options make it easy to customize both White and Yellow Shawarma Sauces to your taste.
