Steve Greig is a unique pet owner who provides a loving home to senior animals. Each year, around 6 million animals in the US enter a shelter, but thanks to people like Steve, 75% of them get adopted. He has over 20 pets, including dogs, rabbits, ducks, a pig, and more, and all of them are elderly. Steve started adopting senior pets after losing his beloved dog, Wolfgang, in a car accident. He felt that the only way to cope with the loss was to help other animals in need.
Steve finds senior pets to be easy-going and grateful for a loving home. He says they all get along well and he enjoys spending time with them, such as going on walks, watching movies, and more. He finds it challenging to care for so many animals, but he wakes up at 5 a.m. to prepare food for them and he is happy with the life he has chosen.
Losing a pet is always sad, but Steve has a philosophy for dealing with it. He believes that it’s not about him, but about providing a happy and loving home for the animal in its final years. He is proud of the fact that his first dog, Eeyore, lived with him for 7 years, or around a third of its life.
Steve’s pet journey inspired many people and he has over 1 million followers on Instagram. He loves that he has encouraged others to adopt senior pets and he calls his fur family a “wolfgang” on social media.
